CONCEPT AND DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Design ideas where 1st developed from the inferences which was produced after doing site analysis or rather it was developed as an solution for the problems which the site had , which where, 1. HOT AND HUMID CLIMATE. 2. FLOOD PRONE AREA. 3. NIOSE PRONE AREA. 4. COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBOURHOOD. 5. EXISTING TREES.
Design solutions where- PASSIVE COOLING TECHNIQUE for hot and humid climate and FLOOD RESISTANCY TECHNIQUE for flood prone area.
Passive cooling technique consisted of few essential factors like mutual shading , cross ventilation, over hangings, orientation.
flood resistancy involved slit construction technique, using flood prone materials , having storage spaces or sacrificial basement for the flood prone area.

CIRCULATION AND INTERACTIVE SPACES
The main axis for the site is from the western side main road and axis is divided diagonally into 3 directions which lead to 3main block that is educational and research center block and accomdation block.the main axis which are diagonal can be used by both pedestrians and the service vehicles. The pathways between the blocks are meant for oedestrians only which connects each block to one anaother. The blocks are equipped with interactive spaces at the corner of each smaller blocks which act as a node or space for interaction . The students in their free time rather than interacting in front of class and creating noise, they can come and have their free time in these corners and as well as in the betwwen green spaces.
MUTUAL SHADING AND CROSS VENTILATION
Design development started with the staggered shape which where developed according to the passive cooling technique. Later each of the shapes where cut from inside providing corridors, which provided shade from the harsh sunlight in alll directions. The second phase include splitting and staggering of each shape for the cross ventilation.

SITE ANALYSIS

The site was choosen in kumaripalem vijyawada , Andhra Pradesh.Acoording to the studies AP is the 2nd highest state where maximum number of times the flood has occured , after orissa and in AP krishna river is highly prone to flood. During site selection , few points where recommended like the site should not be very near to the krsihna river, it should be at aelevation slope and along the main roads. The site is 1.5km away from the krsihna river and has NH65 which towards its southern side which will connect to the vijyawad western raiway sation, and two main roads along the western and northern side. the site i surrounded by commercial spaces along its eastern and western side whereas it has residential along its noethern side. The site elevated from the river at an height of 4m.The site has many trees with large canopies which can be used as shading material.

NATURE'S ARCHITECT- LAURIE BAKER

Laurence Wilfred "Laurie" Baker (2 March 1917 – 1 April 2007) was a British-born Indian architect, renowned for his initiatives in cost-effective energy-efficient architecture and designs that maximized space, ventilation and light and maintained an uncluttered yet striking aesthetic sensibility. Influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and his own experiences in the remote Himalayas, he promoted the revival of regional building practices and use of local materials; and combined this with a design philosophy that emphasized a responsible and prudent use of resources and energy. He was a pioneer of sustainable architecture as well as organic architecture, incorporating in his designs even in the late 1960s, concepts such as rain-water harvesting, minimizing usage of energy-inefficient building materials, minimizing damage to the building site and seamlessly merging with the surroundings.
He moved to India in 1945 in part as an architect associated with a leprosy mission and continued to live and work in India for over 50 years. He became an Indian citizen in 1989 and resided in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala from 1963 and served as the Director of COSTFORD (Centre of Science and Technology for Rural Development), an organisation to promote low-cost housing.
As a young architect , got inspired with his principles , which are much essential during these days , service the earth is getting affected with the human nature. His philosophies of low- cost methods and climatic responsive methods , have proved to be the best methods for housing in India.
Baker's style of work is significant both in terms of volume and sheer diversity as well as in terms of innovative and particle  concepts he introduced.
His architectural principles involved cost effectiveness use of locally available material , respect for nature, avoidance of energy- intensive material and wastage minimization
to create low cost , beautiful , high quality buildings which long per emptied modern concepts such as Eco friendliness and he as built over 2000 building . He also done pioneering work into earthquake and tsunami proof housing.
             Works  Of  Laurie Baker :
MRS Nalini Nayak's Residence ulloor, Trivandrum :
The main house is formed by a simple three-floor stacking of the pentagon on nine inch thick brick walls.
Internally  each floor divides into the bedroom, bath and landing.

Disaster through movie

Disaster is a sudden incident or accident which causes a great damage to life and society. Here im gonna link disaster incident with one of the movie which i saw recently to understand the pain taken by each individual and society as a whole. Descendents of sun is a korean drama which is a combo of several parameters like love, fight, tragedy and happy ending along with disaster. Its a story of an army officer and a doctor who fall in love and through there different difficult circumstances , how they cope up and how there bonding increases. The part in which i got interested or rather its relevant or related to the topic disaster , is when these couple visit the country urk for their respective purpose and they face an earthquake and epidemic during their stay. When earthquake strikes urk , a solar power plant one mile away collapses , killing and trapping lot of people( workers). The army quaters soon get the information about the calamity , they head towards the site with rescue operation team. Along with them doctor ( heroine) along with her medical team head towards the site to give immediate medical help. When they reach  site, solar plant wil be totally destroyed , under this many workers would have been trapped. Both the teams start with their rescue operation. There is one incident in which 2 workers will be trapped inside the collapsed building, one worker is highly injured as one steel bar would have passed through his body , on the left side of heart and on the other end a part of the steel bar along with concrete pieces would have fallen on the other worker . Technically it is difficult to save both , either one should sacrifice their life. Then the old man decides to sacrifice his life because the other worker is a young guy with family. The team successfully removes the steel bar and save him, but on the other side old man would have died.He gives a message to the docter which she is supposed to transfer  to his wife, who apparently was not staying with him😞. This rescue operation goes for 3 days and den finally they will be able to save a lot of people. After this incident , everyday at 11 am , a sirum is made , wherein the people of urk should pray and give respect to the people who would have lost their life during this calamity. Disaster brings a lot of difficulties physically, emotionally and psychologically , which take a lot of time to heal . Hope every country becomes disaster free...........................
